Tannadice introduced pastured Poultry to the farm in 1999. The method of raising pastured poultry is superior even to the free range method. After the initial three weeks in the brooder, the chickens are housed on the pasture in a bottmless, mobile cage which is moved daily. Alongside the cattle in the pasture, they are guaranteed fresh grass and bedding, sunlight, clean air, and plenty of exercise. Their home protects them from predators. The risks of parasites is minimal because of their daily move. They are given no medications, synthetic vitamins, hormones or appetite stimulants. A safe roomy and stress-free environment reduces the risk of disease and heart failure, common to confined birds. The meat is low in saturated fat, more tender, tastier and far healthier than conventionally raised chicken.
