Order on Line!
As the days grow shorter and the nights longer we are given the chance to reflect on the passing year. This year has been extraordinarily busy on the farm. With the dry spring we were able to start our field work on time which resulted in good field management. The corn field was well worked leaving us with and adequate seed bed and timely sowing of the corn seed. All our efforts resulted in an excellent corn crop. Our first two grass crops were abundant with good quality silage being put into winter storage. A dry summer however resulted in a lack of third cut hay, but with September showers and then more sun we received a resurgence of grass. This resurgence of grass extended our grazing season an extra month!! As usual, fall is calving season on the farm and we have 24 new calves to date with only five left yet to be born.
The new pig nursery and feeder barn has progressed throughout the year. With all the field work we have done this year, work on the barns often got bumped off the priority list. Now with all the machinery washed and put away for the winter building should resume. We also got a new boar this year with the retirement of our old boar Doug. Our new boar, Ted, is a little immature but we hope he will work out!
We want to remind all our customers that we are still at the Farmers Market until Christmas at the Native Sons Hall in Courternay. We also want to encourage everyone to use our online services. We deliver to your home on Thursdays! Starting November 17th until December 15th we are having a special on ground beef, three packages for the price of two (approx. 1 lb packs) for all online orders. So don’t delay - email your orders today!

Fall Harvest!
Fall is definitely upon us. The days seem so short and there is so much to do. All our harvesting is done here on Tannadice Farms. We enjoyed a great crop of corn this year and we are happy with the our grass silage as well. The only crop we were unable to take this year was a hay crop. However the late rains are giving us a longer grazing season than in previous years. For the next few weeks Allen and Matthew will be busy getting drainage in the corn field, spreading manure on the fields and doing some feeder maintenance and all this needs to be done before the winter rains start.

The new barns that we started earlier in the year are progressing well. We hope to continue working on them throughout the winter. Its awesome to see the barns taking shape but wow what a lot of work.

With fall comes the need for Tannadice Farms comfort food. We are happy to supply all our costumers with the finest cuts of Black Angus roasts. We have an abundance of all your favorite roasts from the mouth watering Prime rib to the very tasty baron or rump roast. There is nothing better than coming home to a hearty roast, potatoes, corn and Yorkshire pudding! Order today!

October 9th is the last outdoor Farmers Market. We move into the Native Sons hall the following Saturday right until just before Christmas. Remember if you can't make the Market we deliver free within the Comox Valley, and the farm is always open! So give us a call or go online or come out and see us at the farm.

Latest addition to Tannadice Farms.
Tannadice Farms has some exciting news. At 2:00 am on June 5th Matthew and Lindsay Nikkel became proud parents of a baby girl! Josephine Eileen was born in quite a hurry, she was 8 lbs one ounce at birth and was 21 inches long. Matthew was quite surprised at how fast things progressed (Kayley's deliver was 24hrs long), "I thought I was going to deliver Josephine in the car!" Fortunately they got to the hospital in time.

Lindsay and Josephine checked out of the hospital the following afternoon. Both Lindsay and Josephine are enjoying good health, and would like to thank Tabatha Miller and Grandma Nikkel for helping around the house! Special thanks as well to DR. Susan Hunter for the great job at the hospital (so glad you live close), all the nurses at St. Josephs Hospital, Nana Hargrave for taking care of Kayley during labour, and to Kayley for being such a great big sister!

Welcome to the farm Josephine!

Heathers Beef Bonanza!
Heather is so excited about how well our online and delivery service is working she is offering our customers an incentive to keep on using the service! Starting Friday April 2nd until April 15th any orders received by e-mail or phone can order three packages of ground beef for the price of two! Let me say that again 3 for the price of 2!! Tannadice Farms extra lean ground beef is excellent in any of your favorite recipes. Matthews favorite recipe for Tannadice Farms ground beef is his Mothers meat loaf (secret family recipe), hopefully Matthews wife Lindsay doesn't read this. The Beef Bonanza will run until April 15th or while quantities last, so order your ground beef today and enjoy the quality you have come to expect from Tannadice Farms.

The Farmers Market is just around the corner!
The Farmers Market on Headquarters road is set to start on April 10th, and Tannadice Farms is gearing up for another great year at the market. On the 26th of March we got our first batch of chicks! We can't wait until they are ready, we have been sold out for so long that we have almost forgot how great a pasture raised chicken tastes! The brooder has been modified with a drip watering system for the chicks. The watering system seems to work well but Matthew is having a hard time trusting in the system and is reluctant to stop using the old watering pots. Matthew has also done some redesign to the movable chicken shelters, the design makes the shelter a lot stronger and gives Matthew more headroom for dealing with and catching chickens.

So don't delay seven weeks comes really quick so.....get your orders in for our fresh and fresh frozen whole chickens and chicken pieces. Remember never settle for chicken unless it is Tannadice Farms Chicken, for our chickens are never fed anti-biotics, hormones or animal by-products. Our chickens eat only a vegetable based grain pellet with a side-dish of fresh green Dove Creek pasture!
