This morning Allen shipped four of Tannadice Farms perfectly finished steers. Make sure you order your sides of beef as soon as possible! The steers hang for between 21-28 days so don't delay. Call the farm with your custom cutting list and get thing cut and trimmed just the way you like it. Calf Feeder a success!
Our old calf feeder was in bad need of repair. So Allen and Matthew had quite a job ahead of them. Two years ago Matthew built a wooden calf feeder that served its immediate purpose, however a wooden feeder was doomed from its inception. So Allen and Matthew had to design a feeder that would take the constant abuse young calves would give it. The new design had to be strong and yet light enough to be handled by just two guys. The design had to be made from material readily available and hopefully recyclable! What luck! Allen had been storing old boiler pipe in the loft of the barn! Its great to use something you though might just be junk. So the boiler pipe was cut up and welded into the main frame of the feeder. Welding the old boiler pipe turned out to be harder than expected, but in the end it was a 'work of art'. Matthew then cut two by six fir tombstones which dropped into the boiler frame work. The tombstones keep the calves evenly spaced along the feeder and only allows the calves the ability to place its head in and eat, keeping the hay clean and accessible. In the end Allen and Matthew had created a feeder that works great and was cost effective!
