Tannadice has a cow herd of purebred Angus cattle. This breed is known for producing well-marbled, tender meat with little external fat. We have not purchased any animals for our herd, other than bulls, for about 20 years, so we know our cows very well. We feed out our calves to market weight on grass and corn silage that we grow on the farm. Some years if our crops are down in yield we buy flattened barley to supplement the silage. We graze our animals as much as possible, but being a wet country, we are somewhat limited in that. Our cattle are not fed hormones or antibiotics. When the animals are slaughtered, they are hung to age for at least 21 days, to ensure tenderness.
